Boon or Bane

Mr.P.V.Mohandas Pai, Board Member and Human Resources Chief of Infosys Technologies, has stated in a recent interview that "the trgedy of the whole IT revolution is that people are becoming less humane in the sense they are losing inter personal skills, the ability to move with people, be sensitive to each other. The softer side of life is giving way..."
How true is that statement..! After spending a long day at office I come home and sit in front of my lap top to do some more work or to write blog or to browse the net. If not in front of the Lap top I wish to spend my time with a book or in front of the idiot box. Rather I could call up a friend or visit a friend or neighbor to catch up with them. Looks like it is becoming tough to be humane. I admit honestly that my inter-personal skills are going down. Everyone I meet or talk I tend to think them as prospect in my 'network' rather than opening up myself to see a friend in them. What a pathetic state to be in?!

Well said, the above statement is really true in most of our cases.

Gone all those old days, where in you interact with a person without any expectations in return.

In Current life style, we tend to interact with people expecting something in return. This really blocks the free movement when interacting with people.

During the start of my career, I thought I was good at Interpersonal skill. But, I don’t know about you, my inter personal skill is really going bad at office which is not good sign :(-.

i am not sure on how far i accept this argument... being a software engineer or in IT... should no way be a constraint in building your inter-personal skills... prbly in today's fast paced world, the level of interaction or the emotional bonding might be missing...

Actually seeni, I think the revolution has spoiled as in someways. But helped us in some too.

There are some anonymous commentors in your blogs. You read someone's post and find that there is someone else who thinks in the same way. So that is sort of the latest softer side :-)

But that is no reason for not calling us.

Arasa, in fact you are still better than me in inter-personal skills...:)

Kathir, 'level of interaction' and 'emotional bonding' that's exactly what am I worried about. Both are going down very badly.

Siva, in a way blogging is helping me (you also!) indirectly in staying in touch with my friends. Everytime I make a new post I send out a mailer to all my friends requesting them to go thru and comment on it. If not all at least majority goes thru the blog, if not in blog at least some sends comments/stinkers via mail. In a way I feel that I am in touch with my buddies. I feel it is better than not being in touch at all. It's like sending forward mails to friends every now and then to show them that we do still exist...:)

I accept this, in IT industry we learnt many bad habits.

1. Late sleeping and awaking (miss lot of good things early morning does to us)

2. Send thousands message to a friend though he sits next behind you.

3. Never call up your friend or relatives even on important occasion.

When I meet new person I also feel the same way "What benefit do I get from him". Seeing your response I see that I am not alone in this world
